David Fitzgerald of BBC Radio Devon was amazed to hear that Dartmoor prison was the first to supply home-grown, fresh produce to prison kitchens.

Former Head of Prison Farms & Gardens, Maurice Codd was in charge in the mid-1980s when every prison in England and Wales was supplied with fresh milk, meat, salad and vegetables grown on prison farms. Horticultural success followed with HMP Leyhill winning multiple gold medals at Chelsea.

Now, Dartmoor & Channings Wood prison are reconditioning greenhouses and installing raised beds so that prisons can grow their own food while training and rehabilitating offenders.

Hannah's book, Outside Time, is dedicated to Maurice and Hannah's late father, Bev Wright.
